About This Tool

The GST Calculator works out Goods and Services Tax for India in both directions. In Add mode it treats your amount as the pre-tax base and adds GST to give the final price. In Remove mode it treats your amount as GST-inclusive and extracts the base and tax. It also splits the tax into CGST and SGST, each half of the total GST for intra-state transactions.

Calculations run in your browser at the rate you select (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, and more).

Adding vs removing GST — the two calculations

Adding GST is straightforward: an 18% rate on a ₹1,000 base price gives ₹180 tax and a ₹1,180 invoice total. Removing GST is where people slip up: if a price of ₹1,180 already includes 18% GST, the tax is not 18% of ₹1,180. The base is 1180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000, and the GST inside is ₹180. Reverse-calculating this way matters whenever you quote "inclusive" prices to customers but need the taxable value for invoices, or when you claim input tax credit on an inclusive receipt. This calculator does both directions and shows the CGST/SGST split for intra-state sales, where the tax divides equally between centre and state (9% + 9% on an 18% supply); inter-state sales charge the full amount as IGST instead.
